The Problem
I watched someone painstakingly build interactive event calendars in Excel. It was painful. Professional development seminars were being coordinated through spreadsheet gymnastics, and there had to be a better way.
What I Built
A Flask-based event portal with a weird twist: a virtual “pet” that helped motivate people to engage with professional development. The idea was to make the experience less like checking a box and more like something you’d actually want to interact with.
What I Learned
This project taught me more about collecting user requirements than about code. I gathered user stories, built something, presented it, learned I’d misunderstood something, iterated, and repeated. That loop—build, show, learn, rebuild—turned out to be the real skill I was developing.
Never went live, but I’m proud of where it landed.
